Mouton Cadet Rouge was created in the 1930s by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, combining traditional Bordeaux winemaking with the family's exacting standards. The Baron Philippe de Rothschild company was formally established in 1933, beginning a modernization effort that culminated in Château Mouton Rothschild being elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1973—the only alteration ever made to the historic 1855 classification. The family's core estates are located in Pauillac, encompassing Mouton Rothschild, Château d'Armailhac, and Château Clerc Milon. The Rothschilds have also expanded their viticultural expertise globally, forming notable partnerships such as Opus One in Napa Valley and Almaviva in Chile.
Produced under the Appellation Bordeaux Contrôlée, this wine originates from southwestern France. Bordeaux benefits from a maritime climate, heavily influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, the Gironde estuary, and the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, which provide essential temperature regulation. The 2005 vintage from this renowned region achieved a score of 98 points and is recognized as one of the greatest—complex and balanced. The area's diverse geology, spanning gravel, clay, limestone, and sand, provides an ideal foundation for cultivating varieties adapted to specific local microclimates.
The wine is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, uniting several fine appellations across the Bordeaux region. Cabernet Sauvignon is a prominent variety in Bordeaux, as well as in California, Washington, and Tuscany, and traditionally dominates the gravel soils of the Left Bank. Merlot and Cabernet Franc, also widely planted in Bordeaux alongside regions like California and the Loire Valley, are the primary grapes of the Right Bank. This combination of classic varieties reflects the broad viticultural heritage of the Bordeaux appellation.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
