Bordeaux Supérieur Château Lescalle 2005
The Bordeaux Supérieur Château Lescalle 2005 is a French red wine presented as the Cuvée Emmanuel Tessandier, honoring the estate's historical founder. Born in 1841, Emmanuel Tessandier served as a regent of the Bank of France in Bordeaux and later in Paris. Captivated by the luminous banks of the Garonne river, he established the Château Lescalle vineyard in the local floodplains, constructing the château itself on an artificial mound overlooking the water. Known as a fine gourmet, Tessandier frequently hosted prominent figures of his time for grand feasts to share his wines. He also served as the Mayor of Macau, elected in 1876 and re-elected in 1878. The wine is bottled directly at the château.
The estate is located in Bordeaux, a world-renowned wine region situated along the Atlantic coast that has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages. The region is historically defined by its legendary 1855 classification and its distinct terroir, where the left bank of the Gironde features gravel soils, while the right bank is characterized by different compositions. This specific wine holds the Appellation Bordeaux Supérieur Contrôlée classification. Granted AOC status in 1943, Bordeaux Supérieur covers approximately 12,400 hectares across the entire Bordeaux region. It distinguishes itself from the basic Bordeaux AOC through stricter production regulations, which mandate lower yields, higher minimum alcohol levels, older vines, denser planting, and a minimum of nine months of aging. Red wines from this appellation are primarily based on Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, often supplemented by Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and occasionally Carmenère. The 2005 vintage in this area is widely regarded as one of the greatest, characterized by a complex and balanced profile, earning a score of 98 points. The wine is produced with an alcohol content of 13.5%.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
