Bouzeron A. et P. de Villaine 1991
This is a 1991 white wine produced by A. et P. de Villaine and bottled directly at the estate. The wine originates from Bouzeron, located in the Côte Chalonnaise subregion of southern Burgundy, France. The 1991 vintage in this area was characterized by rainy and uneven weather conditions, resulting in few good bottles being produced.
Burgundy, situated in eastern France, was historically shaped by medieval monks who meticulously mapped the region's countless terroirs. While the broader region is primarily known for its fine-grained system of climats and limestone soils dedicated to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Bouzeron stands out as a unique enclave. Located southwest of Beaune around the villages of Bouzeron and Chassey-le-Camp, the area covers approximately 47 hectares of vineyards planted at altitudes between 270 and 350 meters. The local climate is semi-continental, featuring cold winters and warm summers, while the soils consist mainly of clay-limestone and white marl deposits from the Oxfordian stage of the Jurassic period.
The wine is crafted exclusively from Aligoté, a traditional Burgundy grape variety. Bouzeron is the only communal appellation in Burgundy dedicated entirely to this grape, mandating a 100 percent Aligoté composition and a minimum planting density of 8,000 vines per hectare. Recognized as the home of Burgundy's finest Aligoté, the area's reputation was pioneered by Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The vineyards benefit from selected south-facing slopes and strict regulations that enforce lower yields compared to broader regional standards, contributing to the structural profile of the wine.
