Casón Alto Villabella 1999

The Casón Alto Villabella 1999 is an Italian red wine produced by Villabella. Sourced from the Casón Alto vineyard, this wine is crafted entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the world's most renowned dark grape varieties traditionally known for creating structured red wines in prominent areas such as Bordeaux, California, Washington, and Tuscany. This specific 1999 vintage is bottled with an alcohol content of 12.5%.This wine originates from Delle Venezie, a vast wine region located in northeastern Italy. Geographically, the area encompasses the three historical regions collectively known as the "Tre Venezie": Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Trentino-Alto Adige. The landscape is highly diverse, stretching from the Alps and the Dolomites in the north down to the Adriatic coast and Lake Garda. This extensive geographical spread provides a wide array of soil types, including moraine, limestone, clay, and alluvial deposits. The climate in Delle Venezie is equally varied due to the region's size and topography. The northern, mountainous areas experience a cool, alpine climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, while the southern areas closer to the coast and Lake Garda benefit from a more temperate, maritime influence. Historically, Delle Venezie operated as an Indicazione Geografica Tipica (IGT), granting winemakers considerable freedom to produce wines using both local and international grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon. While the classification was restructured in 2017, older releases like this 1999 vintage carry the Delle Venezie name as an IGT designation.

About the region

Delle Venezie is a large wine region located in northeastern Italy. Geographically, the area covers the three historical regions collectively called "Tre Venezie": Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige. The landscape is highly varied and stretches from the Alps and the Dolomites in the north down to the Adriatic coast and Lake Garda. This large geographical spread provides a wide range of soil types, including moraine, limestone, clay and alluvial deposits.

The climate in Delle Venezie is diverse due to the region's size and topography. In the northern, mountainous areas, the climate is cool and alpine, which provides significant temperature differences between night and day. Further south, closer to the coast and around Lake Garda, the climate is more temperate and maritime influenced. These climatic variations create conditions for the cultivation of a wide range of different grape varieties across the zone.

The wine tradition in the area is long and characterized by a significant production. Historically, Delle Venezie functioned as an IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica), which gave the winegrowers in the three regions great freedom to produce wines from both local and international grape varieties, including red wines from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. In 2017, Delle Venezie was elevated to a DOC with a primary focus on white wines, while the former IGT classification for the other wines was renamed to Trevenezie IGT. Older wines from the region therefore often bear the Delle Venezie name as an IGT designation for a wide selection of wine types.

Super service and very helpful. Lost one of the bottles during transport and reported it to Bottles With History. It was fixed immediately and a new bottle was sent immediately. (Actually a better wine in my opinion) It is very difficult to guarantee that older bottles are drinkable, like the Barolo from 69 I tried. Anders came to the rescue again and of course sent a new bottle of the same caliber. Thank you very much for the good service, can definitely recommend shopping here in safe hands.
