Türel Canavese Produttori di Carema 2002

The 2002 Türel Canavese is a red wine produced by Cantina dei Produttori Nebbiolo di Carema, a cooperative founded in 1960 by local winegrowers. Located in the northwestern part of the Piedmont region, near the border of Valle d'Aosta, the winery operates in the dramatic landscape of Alto Piemonte, where the Alps rise directly behind the vineyards. The wine is bottled at the origin by the producer and comes from the specific vineyard known as Türel. The wine originates from the Canavese Denominazione di Origine Controllata, an appellation established in 1996 that spans the provinces of Turin, Biella, and Vercelli. Piedmont, which translates to "at the foot of the mountain," is globally recognized for its terroir-driven approach and dramatic, steep hills that are often enveloped in autumn morning fog. The Canavese area is defined by its mountainous geography and a climate heavily influenced by the nearby alpine peaks, resulting in cool winds and significant temperature fluctuations between day and night.Viticulture in this alpine environment is often described as heroic. The vineyards are situated on steep slopes, frequently exceeding altitudes of 350 meters, and are cultivated on narrow terraces supported by historical dry stone walls. A defining visual feature of the area is the pergola caremese, a traditional vine-training system where the vines are elevated on stone pillars to form a horizontal canopy, maximizing sunlight capture in the cool climate. The soil is shaped by the Ivrea moraine amphitheater, a geological formation created by a massive glacier during the last ice age, leaving behind a well-drained composition of sand, stone, and gravel that is rich in minerals. While the producer is particularly renowned for cultivating Nebbiolo in this mountain terroir, the Canavese DOC regulations for red wines also permit the inclusion of other local grape varieties such as Barbera, Bonarda, Freisa, and Neretto. The alpine conditions and stony soils of the region yield a distinct expression of these traditional Piedmontese varieties compared to those grown in the lower-altitude areas of the region.

Piedmont

About the region

Piedmont (which literally means "at the foot of the mountain") is located in northwestern Italy, surrounded by the Alps. It is considered one of the world's absolute most prestigious wine regions. The area is known for small, passionate, family-run wineries and a huge focus on terroir (how the soil and microclimate affect the wine).

Classic characteristics of Piedmont:
The royal wines: This is where the world-famous, complex and expensive red wines Barolo and Barbaresco come from (both made from 100% Nebbiolo).

Everyday heroes: In addition to Nebbiolo, the region is famous for the grapes Barbera (juicy, acidic and incredibly popular) and Dolcetto (dark, soft and fruity).

The white and sweet: Piedmont also makes the crisp white wine Gavi and the famous, lightly sparkling dessert bubbles Moscato d'Asti.

The landscape: Dramatic, steep hills – especially in the Langhe sub-area. The hills are often shrouded in thick morning mist in autumn, which protects the grapes and allows for a long, perfect ripening.

Gastronomy: An absolute mecca for food lovers. The area is world famous for the exclusive white truffles from Alba, hazelnuts and rich, simmered dishes that scream with a glass of local red wine.

Super service and very helpful. Lost one of the bottles during transport and reported it to Bottles With History. It was fixed immediately and a new bottle was sent immediately. (Actually a better wine in my opinion) It is very difficult to guarantee that older bottles are drinkable, like the Barolo from 69 I tried. Anders came to the rescue again and of course sent a new bottle of the same caliber. Thank you very much for the good service, can definitely recommend shopping here in safe hands.
