Les Grenouilles Chablis Grand Cru 1982
The name Laroche has a long history in the northern Burgundy region of Chablis, dating back to 1695. The story of the family's winemaking legacy is closely tied to Michel Laroche, who spent over 40 years building a world-renowned wine empire before selling his main share in 2010. Unable to leave the vineyards behind, he retained the special plots inherited from his parents, Henri and Madeleine Laroche. From this exclusive heritage, the intimate family estate Le Domaine d'Henri was later established in deep respect for his father. This 1982 Grand Cru was produced under the Henri Laroche name, representing the family's historical roots in the area.
Located in eastern France, Burgundy's viticultural landscape was originally mapped by medieval monks, creating an intricate system of climats. In the northernmost part of the region lies Chablis, characterized by its cool climate and distinctive soils composed of limestone and Kimmeridgian clay. The 1982 vintage in this area is described as full-bodied and ripe, but of uneven quality, receiving a score of 87 points. This specific white wine originates from Les Grenouilles, a vineyard that holds the prestigious Grand Cru classification, the highest tier in the Chablis appellation.
The wine is produced exclusively from Chardonnay, which is one of the world's most famous green grapes. While it is cultivated globally in places like Champagne, California, and Oregon, it holds a particularly prominent historical position in the vineyards of Burgundy.
The history of the wine
Below, you can delve into the history of this wine — its producer, grape, area, and region.
Burgundy
Burgundy in eastern France was shaped by medieval monks who mapped the area's countless terroirs. The region grows almost exclusively Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and has turned terroir into an art form with its finely meshed system of climats. From Chablis in the north to the Côte d'Or and Mâconnais in the south, the limestone soil yields some of the world's most sought-after and elegant wines.
