Chardonnay Lolonis 1995
The history of the wine
Below, you can delve into the history of this wine — its producer, grape, area, and region.
Mendocino
Mendocino County lies on California's northern coast north of Sonoma County and covers a large area with 12 official AVAs, including Anderson Valley, Mendocino Ridge, Yorkville Highlands, Redwood Valley and Potter Valley. The area is known for having the United States' largest concentration of certified organic and biodynamic vineyards.
The climate varies markedly from cool coastal zones in Anderson Valley to warmer inland valleys, and the soils include alluvial deposits, volcanic types and coastal sediments. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay thrive in the cool coastal zones, while Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and Rhône varieties such as Syrah and Grenache are grown further inland. Anderson Valley is particularly known for its traditional-method sparkling wine production, as well as structured Pinot Noir and aromatic Gewürztraminer and Riesling. The style ranges from slender, acid-driven cool-climate wines with cherry, raspberry, citrus and peach, to full-bodied inland reds with ripe dark berries, spices and soft tannins. The area is known as California's green wine region and a pioneer of organic wine culture.
