Chazelle's Chablis Caves de la Reine Pédauque 1984
This is a 1984 Chazelles Chablis from Caves de la Reine Pédauque, a dry white wine originating from the renowned Burgundy region in eastern France. Burgundy's viticultural landscape was historically shaped by medieval monks who meticulously mapped the area's countless terroirs, creating a fine-meshed system of climats. The 1984 vintage in this region is generally recorded as a very weak vintage.
The wine is produced under the Appellation Chablis Contrôlée, specifically sourced from the Chazelles vineyard. Chablis is located in the northernmost part of Burgundy, an area characterized by its cool climate and distinct soils composed of limestone and Kimmeridgian clay. The region is globally recognized for cultivating Chardonnay, one of the world's most famous green grape varieties, which is also widely planted in areas like Champagne, California, and Oregon. In Chablis, the terroir yields a lean and pure expression of the grape. The producer notes that the wine originates exclusively from the hills surrounding the small town of Chablis, an area that occasionally faces adverse climatic conditions leading to shortages.
Caves de la Reine Pédauque is deeply rooted in Aloxe-Corton, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. The house was founded in 1923 by Pierre André, who shortly after purchased 'le château aux tuiles jaunes', the distinctive castle with yellow roof tiles that remains the company's headquarters today. In the 1930s, André opened the Rôtisserie de la Reine Pédauque in Paris, which helped establish the brand's reputation outside of Burgundy at a time when many producers relied solely on négociants. Operating as a négociant-éleveur, the house was later acquired by the Ballande group and is today part of Maison François Martenot, maintaining a classic Côte de Beaune style.
This specific release is bottled at 12% alcohol by volume in a 70cl format. The technical specifications indicate that the residual sugar in this dry white wine is not significant.

Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
