Cilento Cantina Soc. del Cilento 1970
The 1970 Cilento is a rosé wine produced by the agricultural cooperative Cantina Soc. del Cilento in the southern Italian region of Campania. Located south of Salerno, the Cilento area covers a vast, mountainous landscape stretching from the Sele river in the north to the Calabrian border in the south. The region, which later achieved DOC status in 1989, encompasses the majority of the Cilento National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site dedicated to protecting both the natural environment and the traditional wine culture. It is also historically recognized as the scientific birthplace of the Mediterranean diet.
The local climate is distinctly Mediterranean along the coast, shifting to a more continental influence inland with warm, dry summers and mild winters. The vineyards are planted on highly varied soils, ranging from limestone and clay on the mountain slopes to volcanic and alluvial deposits in the lower zones. Wine production in the area focuses heavily on native Campanian grape varieties. While Aglianico is the primary red grape, often grown alongside Piedirosso and Primitivo, the region is particularly noted for its Aglianico-based rosé wines.
This 1970 vintage was produced and bottled by the cooperative and carries the "Enoselezione Vini D'Italia" seal. The wine was officially bottled in October 1971 and was released in a 720 ml format with an alcohol content of 12%.
