The 2001 Les Champauvins is a red wine produced by Domaine Grand Veneur under the Appellation Côtes du Rhône Villages Contrôlée. Sourced from the Les Champauvins vineyard, this release is crafted from old vines, noted as "Vieilles Vignes" on the label. The wine was bottled directly at the estate and carries an alcohol content of 14.5 percent.
Domaine Grand Veneur is the principal estate of Alain Jaume & Fils, a family winery based in Orange in the Southern Rhône. The Jaume family has been cultivating vines in the region since 1826. Today, the operation is led by the fifth generation, brothers Sébastien and Christophe Jaume, together with their father, Alain. The family manages 130 hectares of organically certified vineyards spread across classic Southern Rhône appellations, including Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Lirac, and Vacqueyras. Alongside the main estate, they also own Domaine de la Bécassonne and Clos de Sixte, ensuring a comprehensive geographical footprint in the area.
The Rhône Valley in southeastern France has a viticultural history that dates back to Roman times. It is geographically divided into the steep northern slopes and the warmer southern sector, where this wine is produced. The Côtes du Rhône Villages AOC, established in 1967, serves as a quality tier between the broader Côtes du Rhône classification and the prestigious Crus of the region. The area is defined by a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers, mild winters, and the strong Mistral wind. Its diverse, well-draining soils include clay, limestone, sand, gravel, and the large rounded stones known as galets roulés. Red wines make up the vast majority of the production here, traditionally built upon a foundation of Grenache, complemented by Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, and Cinsault.

Côtes du Rhône
The Rhône Valley in south-eastern France has grown wine since Roman times. The region falls into two parts: the northern section with steep slopes, where Syrah produces deep wines in Côte-Rôtie and Hermitage, and the warmer south, where Grenache-based blends culminate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wines are spicy and powerful with dark berries, pepper and garrigue herbs.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
