Séguret Jean-Pierre Brotte 1983
The Séguret Jean-Pierre Brotte 1983 is a French wine produced by Ets Jean-Pierre Brotte, a négociant éleveur based in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Vaucluse department. This vintage holds the Appellation Côtes du Rhône Villages Séguret Contrôlée classification.
The wine originates from the Rhône Valley in southeastern France, a region with a viticultural history dating back to Roman times. The Rhône is divided into two distinct sections: the northern part with its steep slopes, and the warmer southern area where this wine is produced.
Séguret is a small, picturesque medieval commune in the southern Rhône Valley, located on the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains near Vaison-la-Romaine. Recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in France, it is one of the select municipalities permitted to append its name to the Côtes du Rhône Villages designation. The village is known for its focus on quality-oriented craft wines.
The local terroir is shaped by a distinct Mediterranean climate featuring warm, dry summers, mild winters, and the characteristic Mistral wind. The vineyards are planted on a complex variety of soils, ranging from calcareous slopes high in the Dentelles formation to alluvial gravel and clay on the lower terraces. Red wine production in this area is predominantly based on Grenache, supplemented by Syrah and Mourvèdre, along with smaller amounts of Carignan and Cinsault.
The history of the wine
Below, you can delve into the history of this wine — its producer, grape, area, and region.
Côtes du Rhône
The Rhône Valley in south-eastern France has grown wine since Roman times. The region falls into two parts: the northern section with steep slopes, where Syrah produces deep wines in Côte-Rôtie and Hermitage, and the warmer south, where Grenache-based blends culminate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wines are spicy and powerful with dark berries, pepper and garrigue herbs.
