Graves Château Carbon d'Artigues 1994
The 1994 Graves Château Carbon d'Artigues is a Grand Vin de Bordeaux produced by L.M. Musyt and M. Bonnot. The wine was bottled directly at the estate and carries the Appellation Graves Contrôlée designation.
Located on the Atlantic coast, Bordeaux has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages and remains a historically significant wine region. Within this region lies Graves, situated on the left bank of the Garonne River south of the city of Bordeaux. Known as the cradle of Bordeaux wine culture, the area was granted AOC status in 1937. The 1994 vintage from this area achieved a score of 82 points and is described as tight and promising.
Graves is named after its characteristic gravel beds, which consist of river-deposited stones that provide excellent drainage and heat retention. The left bank of the region is traditionally dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon thriving on these gravel soils, while the right bank is the domain of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. In Graves, red wine production is primarily based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, supplemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, whereas the area's white wines utilize Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle.
