The Chevalier Lascombes Médoc Alexis Lichine is a red wine from the 1982 vintage. The name Alexis Lichine (1913-1989) represents a profound piece of Bordeaux history rather than a single physical estate. Born in Moscow, raised in France, and later an American citizen, Lichine became one of the most influential wine figures of the 20th century. His 1951 book, 'Wines of France', introduced French wine to a generation of American readers. He significantly impacted the Margaux appellation as the owner of Château Prieuré-Lichine and as a co-owner of Château Lascombes. As a négociant, he established a brand under his own name, which graces this bottle.
The wine is an Appellation Médoc Contrôlée, originating from the left bank of the Gironde estuary, north of the city of Bordeaux. The Médoc area is characterized by soils of gravel, sand, and clay, which provide essential drainage and heat retention. Bordeaux itself, situated along the Atlantic coast, has been a prominent wine-exporting region since the Middle Ages, famous for its historic châteaux and the enduring 1855 classification. The 1982 vintage in this region is described as legendary, rich, and balanced, achieving a score of 97 points.
This blend is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The producer notes that the wine was prepared with careful attention to combine the qualities of these varieties into a harmonious blend. Cabernet Sauvignon, widely cultivated in Bordeaux, California, Washington, and Tuscany, traditionally dominates the gravel soils of the left bank. It is supported by Merlot, frequently grown in Bordeaux, California, Washington, and Northern Italy, alongside Cabernet Franc, which is also classic to the Loire Valley and California. The bottle's label pays homage to local heritage, recalling the era of Eleanor of Aquitaine when the Chevaliers du Médoc would celebrate their victories by drinking the region's wine from silver chalices.

Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.

Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
