The Kalina Garden Chateau Windy Hills 2004 is a Bulgarian red wine produced by Chateau Windy Hills, a winery associated with Tera Invest Ltd. Originating from the Sliven region, this specific release is tied to the Kalina Garden Hotel in Sunny Beach.
This 2004 vintage is crafted entirely from Merlot, a classic blue grape variety that is frequently cultivated in renowned wine-producing areas such as Bordeaux, California, Washington, and Northern Italy. The wine was produced using the widespread traditional method and subsequently bottled at the estate. It is presented in a 750 ml bottle with an alcohol volume of 12.0%.

Sliven
Sliven is a recognized wine region located in the eastern part of Bulgaria, at the foot of the Balkan Mountains and the prominent mountain massif Sinite Kamani (The Blue Stones). The area constitutes an important subregion in the larger Thracian Valley (Thracian Lowlands), which is one of Bulgaria's two primary geographical wine designations. The region's location at an altitude of 200 to 300 meters above sea level creates special topographical conditions for viticulture.
The climate in Sliven is transitional continental with mild winters and warm summers, but is also influenced by the nearby mountains. The altitude means that the area is generally slightly cooler than the rest of the Thracian plain, which contributes to a stable ripening season for the grapes. The area is also known for the local downslope wind "Bora", which helps to ventilate the vineyards. The soil is varied and offers, among other things, nutrient-rich black soil and forest soil.
The wine tradition in Sliven and the surrounding Thracian Valley stretches back to antiquity, when the Thracians cultivated wine in the area. In recent times, Sliven has played a central role in the modernization of Bulgarian wine production, including through the establishment of early wine cooperatives in the early 1900s. The region is today particularly recognized for its red wines, where international grape varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon thrive excellently side by side with local Bulgarian varieties such as Mavrud and Rubin.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
