Pomerol Château Saint Benoît de Ferrand 1997
Château Saint Benoît de Ferrand is located in the prestigious Bordeaux commune of Pomerol. The estate's vineyards cover four hectares on a plateau that slopes gently to the south. Here, the vines grow in clayey sand soils, benefiting from an average age of 35 years. This results in a low yield of 30 hectoliters per hectare. The wine is bottled directly at the estate and holds the Appellation Pomerol Contrôlée classification.
Bordeaux, situated by the Atlantic Ocean, is a historic wine region that has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages. On the right bank of the Gironde lies Pomerol, a small but highly esteemed appellation near Saint Émilion. Although Pomerol has no official classification, it is home to some of the most sought-after wines in Bordeaux and is particularly known for its luxurious Merlot productions. The 1997 vintage received a score of 83 points and is characterized as light and fruity.
The wine is a classic right-bank blend consisting of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Merlot is a prominent dark grape widely cultivated in Bordeaux, as well as in California, Washington, and Northern Italy. It is complemented by Cabernet Franc, another classic variety frequently found in Bordeaux, the Loire Valley, and California. Following the harvest, the wine was aged in 225-liter oak barrels.
