Premières Côtes de Blaye Château de Seguin 1996
Château de Seguin is located in Entre-Deux-Mers, one of Bordeaux's largest wine areas stretching between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. While the area is historically known for its white wines, the estate produces both red and white classic Bordeaux blends. Estates like Seguin represent a more accessible side of the Bordeaux region, situated outside the highly prestigious communes of Médoc and Saint-Émilion.
This wine originates from Premières Côtes de Blaye, a historic appellation on the right bank of the Gironde estuary. The landscape features gentle hills and valleys with soils predominantly made of clay and limestone, along with sand and gravel deposits that ensure good drainage. The maritime climate is heavily influenced by the estuary, creating a stable environment for the vines. The 1996 vintage from this region is described as classic and structured, earning a score of 94 points. Although the appellation was officially restructured and renamed Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux in 2009, older vintages like this one retain the original name on the label.
Bordeaux's right bank is traditionally the domain of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which form the basis of the area's classic blends. The wine holds the Appellation Premières Côtes de Blaye Contrôlée classification and was bottled directly at the property. Following traditional methods, it was aged in oak barrels. Additionally, this vintage was recognized with a Gold Medal at the Concours Régional des Vins d'Aquitaine in 1997.
