Château Marceau Launay is situated in the Côtes de Blaye district within the renowned Bordeaux region of southwestern France. The estate encompasses 29.4 hectares of vineyards, where the soil consists of clayey gravel, providing a fertile and well-drained environment for vine cultivation. Bordeaux, located near the Atlantic Ocean, is globally recognized for its historical significance in wine production, having exported its wines since the Middle Ages.
The wine is classified under the historical appellation of Premières Côtes de Blaye, an area stretching along the right bank of the Gironde estuary, directly opposite the Médoc peninsula. The maritime climate here is heavily influenced by the estuary, which regulates temperatures and creates a stable environment for viticulture. The landscape is characterized by gentle hills and valleys, with a varied soil composition predominantly made of clay and limestone, alongside sand and gravel deposits that ensure excellent drainage. The 1990 vintage from this area achieved a score of 97 points, characterized by great ripeness and balance. In 2009, the appellation system was restructured, and the area officially changed its name to Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux, though older vintages like this one continue to bear the original name on their labels.
This red wine is a classic Bordeaux blend, traditionally crafted from the region's signature grape varieties. The composition consists of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the world's most recognized blue grapes for structured wines, is widely cultivated in Bordeaux as well as in regions like California and Tuscany. It is complemented by Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which are also classic blue grapes deeply rooted in the viticultural traditions of the Bordeaux right bank.

Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.

Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
