Domaine des Sablons Saint-Amour Georges Duboeuf 1987
This 1987 vintage from Domaine des Sablons is a French red wine originating from the Saint-Amour appellation in Beaujolais. Produced and bottled by Georges Duboeuf, the wine is crafted exclusively from Gamay, a classic French grape variety that is predominantly cultivated in the Beaujolais and Loire regions.
Georges Duboeuf, widely known as the "King of Beaujolais," was instrumental in bringing global recognition to the region. Born into a Mâconnais winegrowing family in 1933, he established his own merchant house in Romanèche-Thorins in 1964. Duboeuf built his reputation by gathering wines from hundreds of small growers and taking pride in highlighting individual crus. Although he passed away in 2020, the house remains a defining voice in the region under the leadership of his son, Franck.
The Beaujolais region, located south of Burgundy, is the traditional homeland of the Gamay grape. The area is defined by its granite subsoil and is home to ten designated cru villages, including Saint-Amour, which represent the highest tier of the region's wine production. This specific release carries the Appellation Saint-Amour Contrôlée classification, reflecting its origin from one of these esteemed crus.
The history of the wine
Below, you can delve into the history of this wine — its producer, grape, area, and region.
Beaujolais
Beaujolais south of Burgundy is the homeland of the Gamay grape. The area became world-famous for the young, fruity Beaujolais Nouveau, but the real quality lies in the ten cru villages such as Morgon and Fleurie. The granite subsoil yields juicy, light red wines with fresh acidity and aromas of red berries, flowers and spice. A classic and incredibly food-friendly French red wine region.
